Ecuador Adventure

...A personal adventure to meet the little boy I've been sponsoring in Ecuador for several years, that also turned into a mission trip to bring aid to women and children at El Inca women's prison in Ecuador's capital city of Quito! Plans still underway...

Still working out the details for travel and lodging. Just when I think I've got it figured out, I discover a new place at which I'd like to stay!

Lodgings are very reasonable,
for the most part. And since my goal is to get a good feel for the land and culture and peoples where Dany lives, I plan to stay at at least 3 different lodgings --maybe as many as 5 or 6! -- from a backpacker's hostal in Peguche, to a resort near Cuicocha Lake, to a fully-equipped cottage set below the towering peaks of Imbabura and Cotacachi (extinct volcanos), to a cozy 3rd floor "penthouse" suite of a hotel in the heart of Otavalo (with a balcony overlooking their interior courtyard and a rooftop hammock!) -- the most expensive one under consideration being no more than $36.60 per night!! These are just a few of the places vying for my patronage. I've been corresponding with these places and others, and they've been very gracious and helpful. From everything I've learned, both from personal contact and from reading others' reviews, the indigenous people of Ecuador are, as a whole, very kind and helpful.

For the worryworts
who think I'm going to disappear into the unknown, never to be seen again, I will list here my itinerary and contact info before leaving for my trip, and will then try to add daily updates and photos to this blog while I'm in Ecuador, depending on good access to internet cafes (I've located several in Otavalo already!).

Those who'd like to learn more
about the Otavalo area where I'm going might want to check out this website...
http://www.thebestofecuador.com/otavalo.htm (you'll probably need to copy and paste). This is just one of many good sites out there! I've been learning tons of stuff on the internet.

I'm also planning on making this trip a "working vacation," by doing a lot of photography work, with the hopes of selling some images and perhaps even an article or two! Gotta finance this venture somehow!
