Ecuador Adventure

...A personal adventure to meet the little boy I've been sponsoring in Ecuador for several years, that also turned into a mission trip to bring aid to women and children at El Inca women's prison in Ecuador's capital city of Quito! To those new to blogging, you need to scroll down to bottom to read the first entry (most recent entries are added to the top).

Prison Ministry

I've been establishing a good contact with a woman in Quito who visits the El Inca Prison regularly. Joan Ewan does weekly Bible Studies with some of the women there and helps them to make and sell greeting cards. This income is important, as inmates receive accomodations and food rations only according to what they can pay -- either with cash, or with bribes or "favors" (how some women get pregnant and have babies in the prison). I will be accompanying Joan on two different visits, both to meet and visit with the women for one of the Bible studies, and to visit with the children and deliver donations for this cause. Joan has been faithfully carrying out her Prison Ministry there for 14 years, and she knows all the guards (and the ins-and-outs of the prison system). So I feel safe and reassured to be planning my visits with her.

My tickets are purchased, and the travel dates are set:

I'm leaving on the afternoon of October 17, arriving in Quito Ecuador on the 18th (via Milwaukee, Miami, and Costa Rica). I've made most of my lodging reservations (after much online research), and feel comfortable that I've found both safe and affordable places to stay. I'll post their websites here later.
My return trip is October 27-28.
