Ecuador Adventure

...A personal adventure to meet the little boy I've been sponsoring in Ecuador for several years, that also turned into a mission trip to bring aid to women and children at El Inca women's prison in Ecuador's capital city of Quito! Ask, and it shall be given...

I presented my Ecuador travel plans, and the plight of the women and children of El Inca Prison, to the Outreach Ministry Committee at their meeting today. There was sincere interest and a desire to help, just as I'd hoped! It was decided to recommend to the council that this cause be further publicized through our church, with pleas for monetary donations toward the cause. Wow! God is good!

Others who've heard of my "mission" have already been asking me how they can help and what donations they can contribute! But I've asked them to hold off until I've checked into the costs of shipping items in excess of what I can carry with me as "checked baggage." These costs, it turns out, are astronomical! So it's been suggested instead that I accept only monetary donations, and then make all purchases after I've arrived in Quito, Ecuador. It's a very large city and prices are comparable to what we'd pay here, so that's obviously the most practical solution.

One member of the committee quietly passed a check to me later, asking that I put it toward the purchases in Ecuador -- the very first contribution!

"Ask, and you will receive; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks will receive, and anyone who seeks will find, and the door will be opened to him who knocks." (Matthew 7:7-8)

I've also got a confirmed visitation day to spend with Dany: October 20! I plan to travel down to Ecuador on October 17, spend a couple days in Quito to shop for items for my prison visit, and then spend some time in the Otavalo area to visit with Dany and do some photography and exploration in the Andes. Then it's down to Riobamba to ride the famous "la Nariz del Diablo" (Devil's Nose) train ride! Afterward, I'll return to the Quito area for (hopefully) a second visit to the prison before heading back to the U.S. on the 27th.

I don't have my plane reservations made yet, which is a concern. With airline travel now so expensive, I need everyone's prayers that God will help me find a way to cover the cost!!!
